Mountain State Equine & Large Animal, PLLC is a large animal veterinary practice based out of Capon Bridge, WV. We were founded in August of 2012 with the intention of providing routine and emergency ambulatory veterinary service and complete equine hoof care to farms and large animal owners in an area that has been in need of such services.
Our two founding members, Scott R. Boltson, CCF, and Fred D. Minazzoli, DVM, came up with the idea to start the first Farrier/Veterinary practice in 2004, and it has been in the works ever since!
Our primary physician, Dr. Fred Minazzoli, is a Phi Zeta (with honors) graduate of Western University of Health Sciences, and holds a Masters of Agriculture, Forestry and Consumer Sciences from West Virginia University. Before attending W.V.U., “Dr. Fred” attended U.C. Davis in Davis, CA, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, and held several departmental internships including student manager of the Animal Science Equine Facility and the Equine Reproduction program.
Our resident Farrier, Scott R. Boltson, CCF, is one of only a handful of farriers certified by Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA, Scott moved to Ithaca, NY to begin his long journey in becoming a professional Farrier. After moving back to WV and shoeing horses for over ten years, Scott worked with Dr. Fred to began work on forming the Mountain State Equine & Large Animal business partnership.
